“Moscow at Moonlight”

I think it’s possible that I thank God for our homeschooling opportunity, oh, let’s say about three or four times a day. Winking smile    Sometimes it is because I love the time with my daughter..sometimes  it is because I am grateful for the flexibility when we need to be a blessing to someone we love…sometimes it is because I get to meet her where her needs are…whether that means extra time on something she doesn’t understand, or allowing her to move ahead two grades in math because she “gets it”…but lately I’ve had an awful lot of “thankful” times for the relationship that she has with her art teacher & mentor….she is an enormous blessing to Zoe, and to just about any student that is fortunate enough to take her homeschool art classes.

She’s known locally as “Joan of Art’” Winking smile and is not just a part of our homeschooling world..…she is also very active in the art community in Pearland..whether it is helping the Pearland Art League to organize shows or working with one of the local coffee shops to display her student’s art.

One of my favorite things about Miss Moody’s class is that is truly is an overall ART class..they don’t simply paint, or draw…they memorize artists and their famous works…they go to the local community college and sculpt…they have guest cartoonists come in to demonstrate how to “cartoon”…they take a field trip to the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston….they work with as many different mediums as I can possibly think of to create…her classes every year are full almost immediately…simply, her students have FUN!! Winking smile

These are some of the examples of pieces Zoe has created either in class, during art camp in the summer or during her bi-weekly art lessons with Miss Moody…the rooster was done with many different colors and shapes of tissue paper…the pear is an acrylic…the rabbit is a pencil drawing…and the wintery scene is paint of some sort!  You’d have to ask those two what they came up with for that one! Most recently, something really exciting involving Zoe and her art happened!  We were fresh off of one of her pieces being displayed at a local coffee shop…

which was really, really pretty neat!!  At the end of one of Zoe’s lessons with Miss Moody, she actually got to go help her set up the show…Joan thought it would be neat for Zoe to see what an artist gets to do when they participate in something like that.

So what could be even cooler than that??? Winking smile

Being the featured artist at the Pearland Art League’s show that just opened at the Pearland Rec Center & Natatorium….we found out when I dropped her off at her art lesson last Monday that the piece that she finished about a month ago had been chosen out of 30 students to be the featured piece at the front of the show!!  She was so excited…but didn’t quite know what to say!!!

And here it is…

We went to a reception last Saturday for the art show, and got to see where it was displayed…and she received a lot of compliments on the piece…

As a mom, of course I’m so super proud…but I’m also just as grateful for the people and opportunities that God has placed in our lives…this is just one of them…but one I value and treasure greatly…. Winking smile
